REVALUATION IS COMPLETE

8/20/10 - Assessor Mike Denor has completed the revaluation of the Town of Schleswig and notices of changed assessment began arriving in mailboxes today. Please take the time to read carefully the letter accompanying your notice. One important sentence in that letter reads: "Due to the increase in the overall assessed value of the Town, there will be a change in the 2010 tax rate and therefore the 2010 tax bill the you receive in December may not change significantly."

If you feel your assessment is unfair, the first step is to discuss it with your municipal assessor. You can call him at 1-800-236-1638 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. You can examine the assessment roll and talk to the assessor at the Open Book times which are scheduled for the town hall at the following times:

Monday, August 30, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, August 31, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 1, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If your problem cannot be resolved and you wish to appear before the Board of Review to appeal your assessment, you must contact Town Clerk JoEllen Gramling no later than Monday, Sept. 6th. The 2010 Board of Review is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please read "Assessment Objection Procedure" on the bottom part of your Notice of Assessment.
